Dictador Mopa Mopa 1987 Model K is an exceptionally limited-edition Colombian rum that combines a long-aged spirit, a distinctive tasting profile, and a handcrafted, artistic bottle. It is part of the exclusive Mopa Mopa collection, which pays tribute to Colombia’s cultural heritage, natural materials, and the traditional craftsmanship of local artists from San Juan de Pasto.
Inside the bottle is Dictador rum from 1987, sourced from a special selection of Dictador 1982–1988. The rum was aged in sherry, bourbon, and port wine barrels, which is reflected in its rich fruity character, sherry notes, and a delicately spicy finish. With an alcohol content of 55%, it offers an intense and layered tasting experience intended primarily for connoisseurs and collectors of limited editions.
Tasting Profile:
Nose: Ripe banana appears first, gradually giving way to notes of freeze-dried strawberries, whipped cream, and pears.
Taste: Figs and dates unfold on the palate. Notes of leather and rich sherry follow, gradually transitioning into summer fruits and red sweets.
Finish: Long and fruity, with a subtle hint of clove.
Bottle Design:
Each bottle in this collection is hand-decorated using the Barniz de Pasto technique, also known as Pasto Varnish. This traditional method uses mopa-mopa resin, which is painstakingly processed after harvesting, dyed with natural pigments, stretched into thin layers, and then applied to the decorated objects. The technique is associated with the Putumayo and Nariño regions in southern Colombia and is among the craft practices inscribed on UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The Mopa Mopa collection consists of a total of only 360 hand-decorated bottles. It includes 15 unique designs, with each variant produced in very limited series. Model K thus represents not only a premium rum but also a collector’s item with significant artistic value.
Dictador Mopa Mopa 1987 Model K is a rum for those seeking an exceptional combination of premium spirit, handcrafted artistry, and collectible value. Thanks to the limited number of bottles, authentic Colombian craftsmanship, and distinctive flavor profile, it ranks among the truly exceptional editions of the Dictador brand.
About the Dictador brand:
Dictador was born in Colombia, a country famous not only for its coffee but also for its ideal climate for rum maturation. The result is a rum that appeals to collectors, lovers of rare editions, and lovers of sophisticated flavors.
The Dictador brand draws inspiration from Sever Arangoy, nicknamed "El Dictador," a Spanish official who oversaw the rum trade in Cartagena de Indias, the commercial center of the Spanish colonial empire in the 18th century. The brand is named after him, and this is where the story of Dictador as a rum with authority began.
The modern era of Dictador began in 1913, when the family business of the same name was officially founded. Since then, Dictador rum has been produced with an emphasis on precision, craftsmanship, and long aging, now led by renowned master blender Hernan Parra, who is the third generation of the Parra rum family.
