Product description

Dictador Mopa Mopa 1987 Model O is an exceptional limited-edition Colombian rum that combines a premium aged spirit with traditional South American artistry. It is part of the exclusive Mopa Mopa collection, which pays tribute to Colombia’s cultural heritage, craftsmanship, and natural materials used for generations.

Inside the bottle lies an exceptional Dictador rum from 1987. The rum comes from a special selection of Dictador 1982–1988 and was aged in sherry, bourbon, and port wine casks. The result is a rich, complex, and distinctive profile that reflects the character of very old Colombian rums.

Tasting Profile:

Aroma: Creamy notes with hints of burnt sugar reminiscent of crème brûlée. Fresh oak, strawberry notes, and a subtle touch of red cherries also emerge.

Taste: Sweet, deep, and rich. The palate features notes of cola, coffee, and black cherries, complemented by liquid honey and hints of bergamot.

Finish: Exceptionally complex, with notes of oak spice and summer fruit.

Bottle Design:

Each bottle is hand-decorated using the Barniz de Pasto technique, also known as Pasto Varnish. This traditional method uses resin from the mopa-mopa tree, which, after a laborious processing, is stretched into thin layers, dyed with natural pigments, and applied by hand to the decorated objects. The technique is closely associated with the Putumayo and Nariño regions in southern Colombia and is listed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

The Mopa Mopa collection consists of just 360 hand-decorated bottles. It comprises a total of 15 unique designs, with each variant produced in extremely limited runs of just a few pieces. Model O is thus not merely a bottle of rum, but also a collector’s artifact that bridges the worlds of premium spirits, traditional craftsmanship, and Colombian culture.

Dictador Mopa Mopa 1987 Model O is a rum intended primarily for collectors, connoisseurs, and lovers of exceptional limited editions. It combines the rum’s advanced age, a rich cultural history, and handcrafted artistry, making it a true collector’s gem.

About the Dictador brand:

Dictador was born in Colombia, a country famous not only for its coffee but also for its ideal climate for rum maturation. The result is a rum that appeals to collectors, lovers of rare editions, and lovers of sophisticated flavors.

The Dictador brand draws inspiration from Sever Arangoy, nicknamed "El Dictador," a Spanish official who oversaw the rum trade in Cartagena de Indias, the commercial center of the Spanish colonial empire in the 18th century. The brand is named after him, and this is where the story of Dictador as a rum with authority began.

The modern era of Dictador began in 1913, when the family business of the same name was officially founded. Since then, Dictador rum has been produced with an emphasis on precision, craftsmanship, and long aging, now led by renowned master blender Hernan Parra, who is the third generation of the Parra rum family.
