Product description

Dictador Mopa Mopa 1986 Model M is an extraordinary limited-edition Colombian rum that combines an exceptional aged spirit with the traditional craftsmanship of the San Juan de Pasto region. It is part of the exclusive Mopa Mopa collection, created as a tribute to Colombia’s rich cultural heritage, natural materials, and the handiwork of local masters.

Inside the bottle is Dictador rum from 1986, sourced from a special selection of Dictador 1982–1988. The rum was aged in sherry, bourbon, and port wine casks, which give it depth, complexity, and a distinctive character. With an alcohol content of 53%, it offers an intense tasting experience suitable primarily for connoisseurs and collectors of exceptional limited editions.

Tasting Profile:

Aroma: New leather with hints of candied orange peel and a mineral undertone that gives the aroma a firm and elegant structure.

Taste: A rich fruit bowl with notes of red cherries, pineapple, and passion fruit, all wrapped in a leathery character. Spicy notes gradually develop, primarily clove and cinnamon.

Finish: The finish brings cinnamon, white pepper, and a subtle hint of dried coconut.

Bottle Design:

Each bottle in this collection is hand-decorated using the Barniz de Pasto technique, also known as Pasto Varnish. This is a traditional method that uses mopa-mopa resin, which is harvested, processed, and dyed with natural pigments before being stretched into thin layers and applied to the objects being decorated. This technique is associated with the Putumayo and Nariño regions in southern Colombia and is among the craft practices inscribed on UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Mopa Mopa collection was produced in a total of only 360 bottles. It features 15 unique designs, with each variant produced in very limited quantities. Model M is thus not only a bottle of rare rum but also a collector’s item that brings together Colombian nature, tradition, and artistic craftsmanship.

Dictador Mopa Mopa 1986 Model M is a rum designed for those seeking more than just an ordinary bottle of alcohol. It combines the rum’s advanced age, limited availability, a hand-decorated bottle, and the authentic story of Colombian craftsmanship. As a result, it stands out as a true collector’s gem with significant artistic and tasting value.

About the Dictador brand:

Dictador was born in Colombia, a country famous not only for its coffee but also for its ideal climate for rum maturation. The result is a rum that appeals to collectors, lovers of rare editions, and lovers of sophisticated flavors.

The Dictador brand draws inspiration from Sever Arangoy, nicknamed "El Dictador," a Spanish official who oversaw the rum trade in Cartagena de Indias, the commercial center of the Spanish colonial empire in the 18th century. The brand is named after him, and this is where the story of Dictador as a rum with authority began.

The modern era of Dictador began in 1913, when the family business of the same name was officially founded. Since then, Dictador rum has been produced with an emphasis on precision, craftsmanship, and long aging, now led by renowned master blender Hernan Parra, who is the third generation of the Parra rum family.
