Product description

Dictador Mopa Mopa 1988 Model L is an exclusive Colombian rum from an exceptionally limited-edition collection that combines premium aged spirit with traditional South American craftsmanship. The Mopa Mopa collection pays tribute to Colombia’s cultural heritage, natural materials, and the handiwork of master artisans from San Juan de Pasto.

Inside is Dictador rum from 1988, which comes from the special Dictador 1982–1988 selection. The rum was aged in sherry, bourbon, and port wine barrels, which is reflected in its rich, spicy, and distinctly layered character. With an alcohol content of 57%, it is one of the more intense variants in the collection, intended primarily for experienced lovers of aged rums and limited editions.

Tasting Profile:

Aroma: A distinctly earthy character with notes of old oak and vintage leather. Hints of old books and sun-dried orange peel also emerge.

Taste: Rich, full-bodied, and oily. The taste is dominated by a pronounced sherry character, with notes of Christmas cake, oak spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, and subtle hints of orange peel.

Finish: Long, full-bodied, and rich, with notes of allspice and cloves.

Bottle Design:

Each bottle is hand-decorated using the Barniz de Pasto technique, also known as Pasto Varnish. This traditional method uses mopa-mopa resin, which, after being harvested and extensively processed, is dyed with natural pigments, spread into thin layers, and applied to the decorated objects. The technique is associated with the Putumayo and Nariño regions in southern Colombia and is among the craft practices inscribed on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage.

The Mopa Mopa collection consists of a total of only 360 hand-decorated bottles. It includes 15 unique designs, with each variant produced in only small batches. Model L thus represents not only a bottle of exceptional rum but also a collector’s item of significant artistic value.

Dictador Mopa Mopa 1988 Model L is a rum that combines a distinctive flavor profile, long aging, and a handcrafted artistic bottle. Thanks to its limited production and the authentic story of Colombian craftsmanship, it is a collector’s gem suitable for discerning connoisseurs and lovers of exceptional rum editions.

About the Dictador brand:

Dictador was born in Colombia, a country famous not only for its coffee but also for its ideal climate for rum maturation. The result is a rum that appeals to collectors, lovers of rare editions, and lovers of sophisticated flavors.

The Dictador brand draws inspiration from Sever Arangoy, nicknamed "El Dictador," a Spanish official who oversaw the rum trade in Cartagena de Indias, the commercial center of the Spanish colonial empire in the 18th century. The brand is named after him, and this is where the story of Dictador as a rum with authority began.

The modern era of Dictador began in 1913, when the family business of the same name was officially founded. Since then, Dictador rum has been produced with an emphasis on precision, craftsmanship, and long aging, now led by renowned master blender Hernan Parra, who is the third generation of the Parra rum family.
