The Balvenie 15 Year Old Madeira Cask is an elegant single malt whisky presented in a gift box, combining the Balvenie brand’s signature smooth, honeyed style with the fruitier and sweetly spicy notes of Madeira wine casks. The result is a fresh and harmonious whisky with a summery character that will appeal to lovers of smooth and layered whiskies.
Production:
The whisky was first aged for 15 years in traditional American oak casks, which imparted warm notes of honey and vanilla. Subsequent maturation in Madeira wine casks enhanced its complexity and brought notes of fresh peaches, orange peel, and hazelnuts. The whole thus combines honeyed smoothness, caramel nuances, and fruity accents with a pleasantly long finish.
Tasting Profile:
Nose and Palate: Honey, vanilla, caramel, fresh peaches, orange peel, hazelnuts.
Finish: Warm, long-lasting, and harmonious.
The Balvenie 15 Year Old Madeira Cask is a single malt for those who enjoy smoother, elegant, and well-balanced whiskies with a fruitier finish. The Madeira casks lend it an interesting depth without overshadowing the typical character of The Balvenie.
The inspiration for this whisky came from Honorary Ambassador and former Malt Master David C. Stewart’s travels through Madeira and his interest in the local wines, which led him to experiment with this type of cask.
The Balvenie Distillery:
The Balvenie Distillery, located in Dufftown in Scotland's Speyside region, is one of the last truly traditional distilleries in the world. Its story begins in 1892, when entrepreneur and visionary William Grant recognized the potential of the dilapidated Balvenie Mains estate. He began building a distillery on the property, which he put into operation just one year later, laying the foundation for one of the most respected brands of Scotch single malt whisky.
Unlike most other distilleries, The Balvenie Distillery still produces its own malt, has its own malt drying kilns, its own cooperage, and maintains a team of copper boilermakers, which is truly exceptional in today's world.
For many years, the distillery was headed by David C. Stewart MBE, a legendary malt master who joined The Balvenie in 1962. He pioneered the technique of cask finishing – maturing whisky in different types of casks – and is responsible for many of The Balvenie's iconic editions, including the 12-year-old DoubleWood and the 21-year-old PortWood.
