Anton Kaapl LEGIONÄR Blackcurrant is a limited edition that was created as a tribute to the Czechoslovak legions. This unique spirit, enriched with distinctive notes of blackcurrant, celebrates the heroic and victorious battles of our volunteer army, which crossed the inhospitable Russian landscapes during the First World War.

The history behind the label:

The label of this special edition is a work of art in itself, featuring the emblem of the Czechoslovak Legionnaires with a curve representing the route of the Trans-Siberian Railway from Moscow to Vladivostok. The label also features descriptions of the cities where our legionnaires fought to maintain control of this key transport artery - their only chance of getting home.

The LEGIONÄR edition was created not only as a high-quality spirit, but also as a reminder of the enormous importance that the Czechoslovak Legions had in the creation of an independent Czechoslovakia in 1918. Our military units, made up of approximately 67,000 volunteers, held the entire Trans-Siberian Railway against Bolshevik forces in 1918 and returned home until November 1920.

Production process:

Anton Kaapl LEGIONÄR Blackcurrant is made by macerating dried blackcurrant fruit in premium grain alcohol, supplemented with currant spirit. This spirit is diluted with soft demineralised water from a 102 metre deep borehole in the Třeboň basin. It is sweetened with sugar and flavoured with natural blackcurrant flavouring for perfect taste and aroma.

Ingredients: Water, alcohol, sugar, currant distillate, currant macerate, blackcurrant flavouring. Without other ingredients.

About Anton Kaapl Distillery:

Anton Kaapl distillery bears the name of its founder, Anton Kaapl, a member of one of the oldest families in Jílovice, whose ancestors have lived here since 1586. Anton Kaapl, the founder of the family tradition of distilling fruit spirits, was a war veteran of the Great War and after his return from the front he became an inseparable part of the public and cultural life in Jílovice, where he served as mayor until 1945.

In the South Bohemian town of Jílovice, where the history of the Kaapl family has been written for centuries, a modern family distillery has been established, bringing traditional recipes into the contemporary art of distillation. The name of the distillery and its labels "Familientradition aus Gilowitz" are a tribute to its Austro-Hungarian roots and the family history of growing and processing fruit.

The selected fruit undergoes a carefully controlled fermentation process, followed by several stages of distillation and maceration, maturation in stainless steel tanks and an ageing process that guarantees the exceptional smoothness and fullness of flavour of each spirit.
