Glenmorangie 12Y Lasanta Sherry Cask is an elegant single malt whisky that combines the smoothness of the Scottish Highland style with the richness of renowned Spanish sherry. The name Lasanta means warmth or passion in Old Gaelic—and that is exactly how this whisky feels. It is warm, smooth, and seductively rich, with beautifully balanced sweetness, fruitiness, and spice.
Characteristics:
The whisky first matures in bourbon oak casks, and then spends another two years aging in casks previously used for Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry from Jerez, Spain. It is this finish that gives it its characteristic notes of raisins, orange, nuts, and toffee, which complement Glenmorangie’s typical smoothness perfectly.
Tasting Profile:
Nose: Chocolate-covered raisins, warming spices, honey, toffee, citrus; after adding a drop of water, dates and caramelized apricots.
Taste: Raisins in sherry, orange, walnuts, toffee.
Finish: Pleasantly long, smooth, with notes of spiced orange, sherry, and nuts in chocolate.
Glenmorangie 12Y Lasanta Sherry Cask is a whisky for those who enjoy smoother yet richer sherry-style single malts. It is best savored slowly and will delight anyone seeking a blend of fruity sweetness, spices, and an elegant oak base.
About Glenmorangie Distillery:
The story of Glenmorangie begins in 1843, when farmer William Matheson and his wife Anne built a distillery in the Scottish Highlands in Ross-shire. At the time, he may have sold his whisky for just a shilling a gallon, but his vision was far-reaching. The whisky was named after the peaceful landscape he loved – Glenmorangie, which means "Valley of Peace" in Gaelic.
Matheson laid the foundations for what became one of the world's most famous and respected single malt whisky distilleries. For many years, it was led by Gordon L. Smart, distillery manager since 1920, and the legendary "16 men of Tain," who handcrafted whisky using time-honored methods.
Today, the distillery is run by Edward Thomas, winner of the Global Distillery Manager of the Year 2022 award at the Whisky Magazine Icons of Whisky Awards. Glenmorangie still employs 24 "Distillers of Tain" who continue the craftsmanship of previous generations.
A distinctive feature of Glenmorangie are the tallest stills in Scotland, as tall as a giraffe. It is thanks to this height that the distillate has more space to develop the delicate, fruity and elegant flavors that are typical of Glenmorangie.
The giraffe has thus become not only a symbol of the distillery, but also a symbol of responsibility. In 2020, Glenmorangie partnered with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland to help protect these endangered animals in the wild.
