The Japanese Fuji-Gotemba Distillery was founded in 1973 at the foot of the sacred Mount Fuji on the island of Honshu. At 3,776 metres, Mount Fuji is the highest point in Japan. The conditions are therefore ideal for whisky production. The average annual temperature is around 13 °C and the high humidity is protected by a year-round cushion of fog and soft meltwater from Mount Fuji. Fuji-Gotemba Distillery is one of the few distilleries in Japan to produce all types of whisky in one distillery - grain, single malt and blended. At the same time, it meets all the criteria for Japanese whisky production from April 2024, including products.
Fuji Single Malt is made from 100% malted barley and distilled in copper pot stills. The average age of this whisky is 8 years, but it includes whiskies as old as 15 years. It is matured in American white oak casks, French red wine casks and beer casks. An extreme fermentation of 96 hours gives it a distinctive floral aroma with notes of peach and fruit. Apricots and oat bar are on the nose.
Nose: peaches, apples, pineapple, citrus zest, fruit, delicate fruitiness with a hint of honey and creme brulée.
Mouth: fine viscosity on the palate, sweet white peach, apricots with oat biscuit, fruitcake. Finish slightly sweet, complex, multi-layered finish with a long aftertaste.
